Fear Is Easy. Hope Is Real: Jasonchumusic.

Discovery

One day I was going through a marathon of Fung Brothers' videos. I stumbled to a couple of videos I haven't seen yet. One of them was a video that featured an Asian guy sharing his experiences of being a Yale college student.

Here's a link to that video titled "IVY LEAGUE COLLEGE 101" from the FungBrosComedy Channel:

Towards the end of the video, the Fung brothers suggest to check out the guy's youtube channel that provided his works of music. The first video that showed up was titled "Red Lines." After watching the music video, I got the notion that he stood out more than most rappers.

Biography

Jason Chu is a proud native of Northern Delaware. He was given the opportunity to be a student at Yale University. After receiving his education from the Ivy League school, he traveled to Seoul, South Korea and Beijing, China for some work. When he came back from the states, Jason pursued the career to become a rapper. He currently lives in Los Angeles, California where he continues to create and promote his music. The faith Jason follows is Christianity. It is one of the many factors that influences his lyrical content.

Music

I mentioned earlier that I got the notion that he stood out more than most rappers. From my observation, I see that most rappers usually talk about drugs, sex, money, and partying. And almost two decades ago, rappers talked about those same factors but included gang violence. (Some rap currently produced touch on the gang violence subject but not as much as compared to rap from the 90's.)

Now I'm not trying to hate on the current rap that carry those topics. It does indirectly create opportunities for rappers that cover topics outside of drugs, sex, money, partying, and gang violence. Jason Chu is definitely one of those rappers taking that opportunity to heart.

On top of spreading Christianity, Jason creates rap music to enlighten his audience that there is hope & healing for one's struggles of everyday life. His expressions of his topics stem from his life experiences with friends and family. He uses these experiences to help his listeners reflect on their life and how they perceive the world. Creating this type of rap music will ultimately help Jason fulfill his mission statement: "Speaking Hope and Healing in a Broken World."

Traffic

Jason Chu currently has 3,309 subscribers and a total of 286,093 views of his videos. His most viewed video is a Lupe Fiasco/Guy Sebastian remix called "Battle Scars" that has 35,546 views. It's a music video that focuses on the topic of bullying. His average views for music videos range about 1000-10,000 viewers. Audio song videos range about 100-1000 views.
